Nigeria’s Nsikak Etim became the 11th African Scrabble champion and the eighth Nigerian player to win the prize at the 11th edition of the Africa Scrabble Championship (ASC) held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Nigeria took nine out of the 10 available trophies in the contest that started on October 25 to 28, 2014.
After 32 rounds of Scrabble, spanning three days in a field of 62 players, the Nigerian won 22 games to beat compatriot Olatunde Oluole to the second position.
Prince Omosefe with 21 points took third place to complete Nigeria’s sweep of the top prizes at the 2014 edition of the competition.
The feat earned Nigeria the overall best team award. The only non-Nigerian to ever hold the title, South Africa’s Hovelmeier Trevor took the 10th position.
The next edition of the event will be held in 2016 in Gambia.
