Ondo State offers medical assistance to people with disabilities

The Maternal Pulse Foundation, the pet project of the wife of Ondo State governor, Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko, has donated wheelchairs and offered medical assistance to people with disabilities and the sick in the state. While making the presentation on Wednesday in Akure, Mrs. Mimiko said the donations were meant to encourage the beneficiaries and make them live an easier life.

She said although the MPF might not be able to cater for all the needy in the state, the materials given out were meant to show her “solidarity” with the people, particularly those with disabilities. She argued that since the people were part of the society, they should be encouraged and given a sense of belonging. Mimiko said the foundation works to provide succour for the physically challenged, while it also engages in economic empowerment of the needy. She revealed that the beneficiaries were selected from the people believed to be in dire need of assistance, which government alone could not provide.

Apart from the wheelchairs, some beneficiaries also went home with cash gift for their medical challenges, while others were provided with sewing machines as a form of economic empowerment. The Project Manager of the foundation, Ireti Adesida, said the organisation had been advocating the total wellbeing of mother and child.
