Free surgery for cataract patients in Jigawa state

jigawaNo fewer than 6,000  cataract patients are to undergo free surgery in Jigawa, said Dr Abdulrahman Ashiru, the Coordinator, Eye Care and Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Ashiru made this known at the ongoing free eye surgery in Dutse yesterday. The free eye surgery is sponsored by the state government in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, Vision 20:20. He said that 1,900 patients would undergo surgery in the first round of the programme which started on Monday.

The coordinator said that the exercise was being conducted simultaneously in five major towns – Hadejia, Gumel, Ringim, Kazaure and Dutse. He said that the free eye treatment include cataract, trachoma and trichiasis.

“We shall distribute free azaichroms drugs to all patients with trachoma disease,” Ashiru added.
