The Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe, has urged participants in the Youths in Commercial Agriculture Development Programme to be dedicated in order to succeed in their programme. Arowosafe gave the charge at a training programme organised for youths by the ministry in Ado-Ekiti.
The commissioner said the training was to build the capacity of the participants in mechanised farming to engender improvement in their productivity. According to him, the aim of programme is to breed new crop of entrepreneurs in agricultural business as well as move agriculture from subsistence to commercial level of operation.
The commissioner stressed that the state government had reduced the level of poverty in the state by creating employment opportunities in the agricultural sector. He advised participants to exhibit sense of responsibility so as to be successful business persons in future, saying the state government was ready to support serious-minded and business-oriented ones among them.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Oludare Abegunde, advised them to make judicious use of the knowledge gained on their various farms. One of the participants, Mr. Dele Olaosebikan, who described the training as an eye opener, expressed appreciation to the state government for organising the programme.
